Yoga in Early Childhood Centres

My Yoga Playground offers a joyful introduction to yoga and mindfulness for children in early childcare centres and preschools to foster an early love of taking care of their wellbeing. From Catherine’s experience studying and working in childcare and an early learning centre, she recognised how important the first five years of life are in children’s physical, emotional, social and language development. Their minds are like sponges in their formative years, so what better time to tap into their innate curiosity, engage their bodies and inspire their hearts and minds.

Yoga provides a channel for children to explore and learn through play, make sense of the world around them, whilst mindfully being, moving and breathing in a non-competitive, inclusive and fun environment. Children will be safely guided to learn and grow through:

  • age-appropriate yoga poses

  • simple and portable breathing techniques

  • sharing circles

  • fun and imaginative yoga adventures

  • engaging games and songs

  • mindful exercises, affirmations and relaxation techniques

The practice of yoga aligns itself very well to the Early Years Learning Framework: Belonging, Being and Becoming and contributes positively to children’s school readiness. The yoga sessions are mindfully planned and designed with the EYLF learning outcomes in mind: children having a strong sense of identity and wellbeing, a connection to themselves and contributing to their world around them, and being confident, effective communicators and involved learners.

Sessions are held weekly or twice a week, and the length of sessions vary based on age groups.

Yoga in Schools

My Yoga Playground also offers weekly yoga and mindfulness sessions for primary and high school students to help them navigate through daily life, school, and empower them to thrive in adulthood. With greater access to information, our senses are constantly in overload. Add to that, peer pressure, the influence of social media, changes at home and school - life can be extremely stressful and overwhelming. It is now recognised that mental health is just as important as physical health. Without a proper channel for children to release their stress, and confidently understand and manage their emotions, it can be very unhealthy and detrimental in the long term. Imagine if you were introduced to yoga and meditation at school?

My Yoga Playground is committed to offering meaningful and engaging sessions to help children:

  • become more resilient, grounded and mindful on and off the mat

  • develop greater body awareness and a positive self-image

  • develop mental clarity, better concentration and discipline

  • make better decisions and enhance their problem solving skills

  • develop love and compassion towards themselves and others

  • develop stronger interpersonal skills

Sessions will include:

  • age-appropriate yoga poses, individually, and in partners or groups

  • simple and portable self regulating breathing techniques

  • creating new yoga sequences

  • engaging and mindful games

  • simple meditation, guided visualisation, affirmations and relaxation techniques

Sessions are held weekly during school term, and the length of sessions vary based on age groups.

If you are interested in introducing yoga and mindfulness to your school or organising after-school sessions, please get in touch.

"My daughter is in her second term of yoga with Catherine. She always looks forward to her class and it is really a highlight of her week. It is wonderful to see her practising her poses at home. She also enjoys the relaxation aspect and it has been great, as a parent, to help her use her yoga breathing to calm down when she feels overwhelmed. I loved doing yoga as a child and am so glad my daughter has the opportunity to develop a practice with Catherine.
