6 things that happen in a family yoga class

Have you ever been to a family yoga class?

Here are 6 things that will happen:

1) Families become fully grounded in the present moment

Breathing exercises, yoga poses, mindful activities and games help bring awareness to the present moment. Plus no distractions, iPads or mobile phones.

2) Quality bonding time to strengthen trust, connection and communication

Nothing like a partner pose to help build parent/child relationships. Communication and trust is key to building a strong relationship and dong a partner pose. There will also be laughter to keep it light-hearted, playful and fun.

3) Children will observe parents as learners too

Children will see their parents learn and play, maybe make mistakes, try something new - parents are human after all. Seeing this can help the dynamics between parent and child/ren. It can be reassuring for children to know that their parents don’t know everything and may not be perfect when they are trying something different. Children may even be better at certain poses than their parents thus helping with their self-confidence. Roles might even be reversed and children can be the 'leader'.

4) Healthy, happy habits as a family unit are reinforced

Yoga is better and more fun together, so family yoga could become a regular activity for the household, or tools learned in class can be implemented at home or school.

5) Families will reset their nervous system

Learn tools to better cope with big emotions, challenges, stress etc. Relaxation and breathing exercises will help recalibrate the nervous system.

6) It encourages meaningful conversations after the class

Family yoga can help increase communication between parent/child - a shared activity like family yoga creates positive memories, and discussions about the class can last for days/weeks after the class.

Of course, there are many more benefits involved in family yoga that you might experience, however the above are some of my favourites.
